PUBLIC SAFETY

Security Screening & Threat Detection Systems

Security screening and threat detection equipment is used to detect weapons, explosives, contraband, dangerous items or threats at checkpoints and sensitive locations.

Screening is a process, not a machine

Detection equipment performs only as well as the checkpoint around it. Throughput, queue management, secondary search procedure, operator rotation and escalation all determine whether a checkpoint works. A well-specified machine in a badly designed checkpoint produces delays and missed detections in equal measure.

Where BCE Systems deploys screening

  • Airports, ports and transport terminals
  • Government buildings, courts and institutional facilities
  • Mission compounds, camps and controlled zones
  • Hotels, conference venues and event sites
  • Mining, industrial and high-value asset sites where theft or contraband is the concern

What BCE Systems provides

Threat and requirement assessment, checkpoint design including flow and secondary search, equipment selection matched to the threat rather than to a catalogue, installation and commissioning, operator training, and maintenance. Screening equipment is subject to import, licensing and in some cases radiation-safety requirements, and we address those before supply.

Frequently asked

What throughput can we expect?
It depends on the technology, the staffing and the secondary search procedure far more than on the machine's rated figure. We model throughput against the actual entry pattern, including peak arrival.
How often do operators need retraining?
Regularly. Detection performance degrades with routine, and this is the most common weakness in an otherwise sound checkpoint. Training and rotation should be planned as an ongoing cost, not a one-off.
