UN Global Compact Support

Our participation

BCE Systems Limited joined the United Nations Global Compact as a participant on 22 January 2021. The official BCE Systems Limited participant profile is the authoritative source for current participant status and Communication on Progress records.

Participation is a commitment to align strategy and operations with ten principles concerning human rights, labour, the environment, and anti-corruption and to report in accordance with the applicable Communication on Progress framework. It is not a certification or endorsement of every BCE product, service, or performance claim.

The ten principles

Human rights

Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights.

Businesses should make sure that they are not complicit in human-rights abuses.

Labour

Businesses should uphold freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining.

Businesses should uphold the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour.

Businesses should uphold the effective abolition of child labour.

Businesses should uphold the elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.

Environment

Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges.

Businesses should undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility.

Businesses should encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.

Anti-corruption

Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.

Application to BCE’s work

BCE supplies communications, security, public-safety, broadcast, power, and mission-support systems. Such technologies can create significant benefits and can also create human-rights, safety, privacy, environmental, and integrity risks. BCE therefore commits to proportionate review of the customer, end use, deployment context, legal authority, partner, and supply chain before and during higher-risk work.

BCE may decline, pause, or escalate an opportunity where due diligence identifies an unresolved risk of unlawful surveillance, abuse, corruption, diversion, unsafe use, prohibited discrimination, or another serious harm. BCE also commits to appropriate anti-bribery procedures under Kenyan law, responsible sourcing and disposal where practicable, fair labour practices, and good-faith reporting routes.

Reporting and use of programme materials

BCE’s current Communication on Progress record should be checked on the official participant profile. BCE does not state that a particular annual report has been submitted unless the official record or a submission receipt supports that claim.

Use of the United Nations Global Compact name and logo is subject to its current integrity and brand rules. BCE will use programme materials only with the required permission and will not imply United Nations endorsement.
