Glossary
This industry runs on abbreviations, and most of them are never explained to the people who have to approve the budget. Everything below is a term used somewhere on this site, written so that it makes sense without a technical background.
Broadcast & digital media
CATV Cable Television. Television distribution through cable infrastructure.
DTT Digital Terrestrial Television. Television broadcast delivered through terrestrial transmitters rather than satellite or cable.
DTV Digital Television. Television signals delivered in digital format.
DVB Digital Video Broadcasting. A family of digital television broadcast standards.
EFP Electronic Field Production. Planned video production away from the studio.
ENG Electronic News Gathering. Field production systems used for news collection and reporting.
IPTV Internet Protocol Television. Television delivered over IP networks.
MATV Master Antenna Television. A shared television distribution system for buildings, hotels, apartments or facilities.
OB Outside Broadcast. Live or recorded broadcast production from outside a studio.
OTT Over-The-Top. Content delivered over the internet rather than traditional broadcast or cable networks.
STL Studio-to-Transmitter Link. The connection between a broadcast studio and a transmitter site.
Telecommunications
DMR Digital Mobile Radio. A professional digital radio communication standard.
LTE Long-Term Evolution, commonly known as 4G mobile broadband technology.
P25 Project 25. A radio communication standard associated with public safety systems.
PTT Push-to-Talk. Instant voice communication where users press a button to speak to a group.
TETRA Terrestrial Trunked Radio. A professional mobile radio standard used in mission-critical environments.
UHF Ultra High Frequency. A radio-frequency range used for many professional radio systems.
VHF Very High Frequency. A radio-frequency range used for certain communication systems.
Public safety

IAM Identity and Access Management. Systems used to manage digital identities and access rights.
MDR Managed Detection and Response. Managed cybersecurity monitoring and response service.
SOC Security Operations Centre. The team and facility that monitors an organization's systems for security threats and responds to them.
Company and commercial
BCE BCE Systems, the company brand used across the corporate and regional websites.
AV Audio-Visual. Sound and video systems for presentation, conferencing and production environments.
DStv Digital Satellite Television, the MultiChoice satellite television service. DStv Business is its commercial licensing tier for hotels, offices, compounds and institutions.
RMA Return Merchandise Authorization. A process used for product return, repair or replacement.
WEP Women's Empowerment Principles. Principles supporting gender equality and women's empowerment.
